| LP: Listening Project |

LP logo.jpg

On July 4, 2021 I embarked on a 12-month Listening Project ("LP") to methodically listen to American popular music from the beginning of the recorded age until today. With roughly one genre per week it will inherently be reductionist and high-level.

In addition to appreciating the music, my primary output is a collection of insights about the connections with cultural events and especially connections among genres.

Launching the Listening Project

To ease the way, I found a project partner who will both keep me accountable and lend insight into each week's listening. We will culminate each week with a one-hour debrief conversation to we reflect on the week's genre and review the "connection" insights that we collected!

This isn't meant to be too formal; I'm doing it simply because I'm curious about music and culture! I hope to build a high-level "mental atlas" for American music which will be a basis for continued lifelong learning and appreciation.
